Description

Some sideboards store things. The Sol Sideboard makes a statement about the entire room.

At 80 inches wide, the largest sideboard in the Decoronto collection by a significant margin the Sol is designed for rooms that deserve a centerpiece. Its defining feature is a sunburst pattern crafted in mango wood planks across every door and panel, an art deco motif that radiates from a central point in swirling, geometric arcs of light teak and dark contrast, creating a surface that functions more like sculpture than furniture.

Mounted on a sturdy black iron frame with a finished back, the Sol is the collection's most dramatically designed and generously scaled piece.

The Sunburst Pattern — Art Deco at Its Most Iconic

The sunburst motif, rays of light radiating outward from a central point, is one of the most enduring and recognizable symbols of the Art Deco movement. From the lobby of the Chrysler Building to the jewellery of the 1920s, the sunburst was the defining decorative statement of an era defined by boldness, optimism, and craftsmanship.

On the Sol, the sunburst is rendered in mango wood planks, individually arranged to create the radiating pattern across the face of every door. The light teak finish captures the natural tones and grain of the mango wood, so the pattern has real depth and warmth rather than the flat quality of a printed or painted surface. This is not a decorative decal or a graphic applied over MDF. This is wood, arranged by hand, to form a pattern.

Rustic Cottage Meets Art Deco — A Fusion That Works

The Sol's design brief is an unusual one: rustic country cottage sensibility expressed through art deco geometry. This sounds like a contradiction , and in lesser hands it would be. On the Sol, it resolves into something genuinely original: the warmth and textural richness of cottage design, disciplined by the clean geometric confidence of art deco.

The light teak mango wood carries the rustic warmth. The sunburst pattern carries the art deco geometry. The black iron frame ties both together, raw, industrial, and contemporary at once.

Black Iron Frame — The Structural Statement

The Sol sits on and is framed by a black iron base , 0.9" thick iron elements that provide both structural integrity and a bold visual anchor. The contrast between warm light teak mango wood and matte black iron is one of the most sought-after combinations in contemporary Canadian interior design: organic warmth above, industrial precision below.

The iron frame also gives the Sol a distinct silhouette ,one that reads as designed rather than simply assembled. It is part of the aesthetic, not just the structure.

Soft-Close Hinges — Four Doors, Zero Noise

The Sol's four doors all feature soft-close hinges ,a hardware detail that matters more at 80 inches wide than on any other sideboard in the collection. With four doors opening and closing throughout the day, the whisper-quiet, controlled close of soft-close hardware is not a luxury , it is essential. The Sol delivers it on every door.

Finished Back — Place It Anywhere

Like the Aura, the Sol features a finished back panel , plywood painted black to match the iron frame. This means the Sol does not need to be placed against a wall. At 80 inches wide, the Sol is long enough to define a space on its own, as a room divider between a living and dining area, as a console behind a large sectional sofa, or as a floating centerpiece in a double-height open-plan room.

The black-painted back creates a clean, intentional appearance from both sides consistent with the overall black iron and light teak palette of the piece.

80 Inches — The Grandest Scale in the Collection

At 80 inches, the Sol is 9 inches wider than the next largest sideboard in the Decoronto collection (the Riad at 71"). At 36 inches tall, it matches the Aura for the greatest height in the lineup. This is a piece for rooms with the scale to meet it, large open-plan dining rooms, double-height living spaces, and grand entryways where a full-scale statement piece is not just appropriate but necessary.
