Description
Some counter stools hold you in place. The Cleo Counter Stool spins.
A 360° swivel seat in toffee herringbone performance fabric, set on a solid bentwood frame in dark walnut with an aged gold footrest , the Cleo is the most entertaining counter stool in the Decoronto collection. It is the stool for kitchen islands where conversations happen in every direction, for home bars where guests turn to face each other, for any counter where the food is made on one side and the life of the household happens on all the others.
With bentwood arms, a stain-resistant herringbone seat, and 300 pounds of structural confidence, the Cleo brings warmth and refinement to wherever you put it.
360° Swivel — The Feature That Changes Everything
Most counter stools face one direction. The Cleo faces every direction.
The 360° swivel mechanism is built into the seat base, allowing a full rotation without moving the stool. At a kitchen island or counter, this means guests can rotate to face a conversation without pushing the stool back, pivoting their body, or standing up. At a home bar, it means two people on Cleo stools can rotate inward to face each other or outward to face the room , without disturbing their position at the counter.
This is not a novelty feature. At a 26-inch seat height, where the counter is between the seated person and the rest of the room, the ability to rotate freely is a genuine comfort advantage , and one that most counter stools at this price point do not offer.
Toffee Herringbone — A Performance Fabric That Earns Its Pattern
The Cleo's upholstery is not a plain fabric. It is a fine herringbone weave in toffee ,a geometric pattern woven at a scale fine enough to read as texture from across the room and as craftsmanship up close. The V-shaped herringbone weave gives the toffee colour a depth and warmth that a flat fabric would not achieve ,light catches the warp and weft differently at different angles, making the fabric shimmer very subtly as it moves.
The toffee colour itself — a warm golden-brown with rich undertones , is one of the most versatile and inviting tones in the warm palette. It works with dark walnut furniture, natural oak floors, white and cream walls, and warm stone countertops. It reads as luxurious without being demanding.
Critically, this herringbone is a performance fabric: stain and water resistant. For a counter stool in a kitchen or dining environment, this is not a luxury specification. It is a practical one. Spills, splashes, and the general reality of eating and drinking around the Cleo are covered.
Solid Bentwood — The Construction Technique That Built Modern Furniture
The Cleo's frame is solid bentwood in a dark walnut finish ,a construction method that deserves its own explanation, because most buyers have never been told what bentwood actually is.
Bentwood is wood that has been softened with steam and then bent into curved shapes under pressure. The technique was pioneered in the 19th century and gave rise to some of the most recognizable chair designs in history , the café chair, the Thonet rocker, the Vienna chair. Bentwood creates curves that are structurally stronger than curves cut from flat wood, because the wood fibres follow the curve rather than being cut across it. The result is a frame with clean, flowing curves and a strength-to-weight ratio that carved or flat-cut wood cannot match.
On the Cleo, the bentwood construction creates the distinctive flowing lines of the frame , including the arms, which are integrated into the bentwood silhouette. The dark walnut finish deepens the grain of the wood to a rich, warm brown that contrasts beautifully against the toffee herringbone seat.
Arms — The Detail That Sets the Cleo Apart
The Cleo has arms. Neither the Wren nor the Berg does.
Counter stool arms are relatively rare, because most counter stools are designed to be pushed fully under the counter ,and arms prevent this. The Cleo's bentwood arms are part of the design language of the stool: they give it a more enclosed, upholstered-chair feel than an armless stool, and they make extended seated time considerably more comfortable. If your counter or island allows for stools that don't need to slide completely underneath, the arms are a significant comfort upgrade.
Aged Gold Footrest — A Luxury Accent, Not an Afterthought
The Cleo's aged gold footrest is a deliberate design choice , not a matching-material practical element like the rubberwood footrest on the Berg, but a metallic accent that bridges the warm toffee fabric and the dark walnut frame with a third warm tone. Aged gold occupies the visual space between them, adding warmth without matching either material exactly.
The footrest is positioned at counter-stool height for comfortable resting , a detail that matters as much for the Cleo's 26-inch seat as for any counter stool, and one that the swivel mechanism makes even more valuable (a swivelling stool with no footrest anchor is less stable in use; the footrest keeps the sitter grounded).
300 lb Weight Capacity — Maximum Confidence
At 300 lbs, the Cleo is the highest weight-capacity counter stool in the Decoronto collection , tied with the Berg (260 lb) in terms of specifying load capacity, and rated 40 lbs higher. For a fabric, swivel counter stool with a bentwood frame, this is an exceptional structural specification.
Assembly Required — What to Expect
⚙️ Assembly Note: The Cleo requires assembly. This is typical for counter stools with swivel mechanisms, which are shipped disassembled to protect the swivel base. Assembly is straightforward and requires no specialist tools , the swivel base attaches to the legs, and the seat mounts on the swivel. Expect 15–25 minutes for two adults.
